What's new and different
This page summarizes the most significant additions and changes
in version 10. We strongly recommend that you take a little
time to review this page and follow the links to the topics that
provide you with more details about the new and improved
features.
Compatibility
Windows Vista and Windows 7. We've
addressed the issues affecting Windows Vista and Windows 7 Standard
user accounts. These changes mean that it is no longer necessary to
run Diamond Mind Baseball with administrator privileges.
64-bit Windows. The season
installation procedure has been updated to accommodate 64-bit
versions of Windows.
Playing games
Expanded play-by-play. In addition to
our ongoing effort to add more variety to the play-by-play library,
we have added three fundamentally new capabilities to the
play-by-play system:
-
Pitcher profiles.
Pitchers can now be coded for the types of pitches they throw and
for their pitching style.
-
Player nicknames. Player's nicknames,
which will automatically be added to your seasons when you convert
them to version 10, will appear in the play-by-play commentary.
-
Manager nicknames. You can enter the
name of a manager for each team that will also be included in the
play-by-play commentary.
A
Playing Time Limitation System. A customizable option to
discourage overuse of a player. When the playing time limits system
is enabled, a player's performance will be penalized if he is
overused. You can enable or disable the entire system, enable or
disable parts of the system, and set the playing-time thresholds
when the penalties kick in. A great feature for league play with
usage limitations!
Set the
Weather. We have added the option to specify the weather
conditions before starting a game.
Check
Scheduled Starting Pitchers. When replaying a season
using real-life lineups, you'll have the ability to check the
scheduled starting pitchers for the next four days.
Boxscores. Boxscores now include
cumulative RBI, 2B, 3B, and SB totals.
Enhanced Game Screens. The standings,
roster and substitution screens have been expanded and enhanced to
include more statistical information. In addition, OBP and SPC have
been added to the player "cards" areas in the game window.
Miscellaneous
Active Database. The currently
active database is now always visible in the title bar.
More transaction types. We have
added new real-life transaction codes to account for personal
leave, military leave, day-to-day injuries, and time spent in the
manger's doghouse.
Injury
Ratings. For those players who are
especially fragile we have added the Very Prone injury rating.
Updated historical info. The master
era and player files have been updated to include seasons up to
2009.
